Look who Came to Town!

My parents and my sisters came to visit this weekend! We had so much fun! Friday night we went out for pizza and then the girls spent the night with Jake and I. Then, on Saturday my mom, my sisters and I went out shopping! Jake and my dad went to Navy Pier and the Guitar Store. Then we all had supper at our apartment! We had a wonderful time together. Enjoy the pictures!

Here's me and my girls walking to the pizza place.

Rebekah and Elizabeth spent the night on Friday night with Jake and I. Elizabeth loved our comfy sac! It was fun to have our "slumber party" again just like when I lived in Iowa:)

Our first stop for Saturday was to the new American Girl store. The girls loved it! Their faces were so cute when they walked into the store.

Rebekah and Elizabeth showing off their new "American Girl Chicago" shirts.

Us being silly after going to the Hershey store... mmmmm chocolate our favorite!

The last stop for our shopping trip was Lego Land! This store is so cool, they have big objects made out of legos everywhere! I think the girls could have stayed there playing with the legos all day!

We rode the train home after shopping and Rebekah and Elizabeth loved it!

We had such a great time with my family. It was a short but great trip! We can't wait to see them over Thanksgiving break. Now we're looking forward to Max and Rita coming!

Learning to Sew

Laura heard that I know how to sew and decided she wanted to learn! So, my mom brought some fabric for me and a pattern and I taught Laura how to sew! Laura wanted her first project to be an apron.
Laura practiced on my table clothe that I made out of the same fabric as her apron!

I had to help Laura with a few parts of the apron. She couldn't quite get the parts with the curves. That's ok though! That's how I was when I learned to sew!

This is what Jake was doing the whole time we were sewing:) He played some very lovely back ground music for us:)

Isn't he so handsome? :)

The finished project! Laura did a great job! It looks like we bought it!
We had so much fun sewing! My Grandma would be proud. Next project, my Halloween costume for work: Dorothy from Wizard of Oz!

Well, Fall has come! The leaves are changing and it is beautiful. I thought I would share a few pictures of what the trees look like outside our window...

Isn't God so creative!?! The colors are just breath taking when you walk down the street! The yellow ones are my favorite:)

Also, I thought I would share a few pictures from the marathon this weekend. Jake's old room mate Josh ran in the Chicago Marathon this past weekend. We had a great time! This was his first ever marathon! He finished it in about 5 hours which is a great time for a beginner!

Josh is the one in the white shirt looking right at the camera. It was great we got to see him at the starting line, at mile marker 3, and at mile marker 12! We weren't able to see him at the finish because the crowds were crazy!!!

47,000 runners and one million fans watching = chaos!
Here's an example of the crowds:

And this is Josh's girlfriend Laura, Jess and I with our signs ready to cheer before the marathon began! We also made shirts:) Jake wore one too, I didn't get a picture of him though:( sorry!

Our Latest Adventures

Jake and I have been keeping ourselves busy with work and school. I work Monday through Friday most weeks unless the school has a day off for a holiday! And Jake has had a fair share of homework over the last few weeks, but we seem to find time to have a little fun:)

Our first
major purchase here in Chicago after buying everything for our apartment was a new guitar for Jake! He has had is eye on this guitar for quite some time and he decided to trade in his two electrics for this one electric. It sure is beautiful!

This is a John Mayer Fender Strat. It sounds great when Jake plays it! So as of right now, Jake has two guitars... an acoustic Martin and this electric. Hopefully thats all for a while:)

Our next adventure was carving pumpkins with our friends! Jake's old room mate Josh and his girlfriend Laura and Charity all came over and we carved pumpkins!

This was Charity's first time carving pumpkins. It was so funny to watch her stick her hands inside the pumpkin:)

Here is our finished product!
Doesn't he look so much like us? Jake is so creative when it comes to carving pumpkins. Who would have thought to put glasses on a pumpkin?

Our latest adventure was with Matt and Shannon. They came to visit last weekend and we had a blast! We have missed them soooo much!

We stayed up late playing Ticket to Ride and Sequence. Jake and Matt enjoyed watching the Office and walking down Michigan. And where were Shannon and I? Target of course!!! There is no Target in Newton so its a treat for Shannon to go to Target and it was a treat for me to go too since its not very close to  our apartment!

We found our new addiction too! It's called Berry Chill. It's a little shop that sells frozen yogurt with different fruits and cereal toppings.

Jake's favorite combination is the vanilla frozen yogurt with blueberries, raspberries, and fruity pebbles! It's delicious!

We thought their spoons were really cool too! They are plastic and change colors when it gets cold! As you can see here, Matt and Shannon liked it too!

Well, this is a crazy long post but I had to write all of the things we've been doing! Hope you enjoy our blog!

We Have a Blog!

Well now that Jake and I are in Chicago it is a little harder to keep in touch with everyone. So I thought it would be nice to have a blog. This way we can share photos and stories with our friends and family! We'll just have to see if I can figure this out:)
